How can I personalise my rental?

What a difference a rug makes!

Here’s a list of budget-friendly ideas for tenants to beautify their rentals without causing damage or breaking the bank:

  1. Temporary Decals: Use removable decals to add personality to your space. They’re easy to apply and remove without damaging the walls. Please check with your Property Manager first as some homes may wish to avoid these.
  2. Area Rugs: Layering area rugs can instantly add warmth and style to a room. They also protect the existing flooring underneath.
  3. Wall Art: Decorate your walls with removable wall art or posters. You can create a gallery wall to showcase your personality. If hooks are not in place contact your Property Manager to gain approval to install hooks.
  4. Curtains or Drapes: Hang curtains or drapes to soften the space and add color and texture. Be sure to use existing tension rods, and if you do take anything down it must be stored safely as it is required to be in place at the end of tenancy.
  5. Furniture Covers: Update worn or mismatched furniture with slipcovers or furniture covers. This is an affordable way to refresh the look of your living room.
  6. Decorative Lighting: Add floor lamps to create a cozy atmosphere.
  7. DIY Wall Hangings: Get creative and make your own wall art or wall hangings using materials like fabric, twine, or driftwood.
  8. Plant Life: Incorporate houseplants or succulents to bring life and vibrancy to your space. They’re easy to care for and can be taken with you when you move.
  9. Furniture Arrangement: Rearrange your furniture to create a more inviting and functional layout. Experiment with different setups to see what works best.
  10. Decorative Pillows and Throws: Swap out old pillows and throws for fresh ones in colors and patterns that complement your style.
  11. Door Wreaths: Hang a welcoming wreath on your front door to add a touch of charm and personality to your rental. If you need to install a hook please seek permission.
  12. Mirrors: Place free standing mirrors strategically to create the illusion of more space and reflect light, making your rental feel larger and brighter.
  13. Repurpose and Upcycle: Give new life to old furniture or decor items with a fresh coat of paint or by repurposing them for a different use.
  14. DIY Headboard: Create a stylish headboard for your bed using inexpensive materials like plywood, fabric, or even washi tape.

Remember to always check your lease agreement and get permission from your Property Manager before making any significant changes or alterations to your rental property. With a little creativity and resourcefulness, renters can transform their spaces into beautiful and personalized homes without breaking the bank or causing any damage.
